The Philosophy of Curiosity

During the first half of my life, I was taught that curiosity is dangerous - that it makes other people uncomfortable - so I shouldn't ask questions unless absolutely necessary.

Now that I'm in the second half of my life, I have a different take on curiosity. It's a powerful way of connecting to others and to ourselves. And curiosity can change conversations and conflict for the better. It changes how we show up for ourselves and for others.

Why Curiously Yours?

Creating Curiously Yours was a perfect storm. My incredible, full-time, corporate Learning & Development job was eliminated in 2024. That was shocking.

Unable to find a new full-time job, I took a great part-time role as a coach with EZRA Coaching the next year. It's been very fulfilling, but the part-time aspect is financially challenging.

Then, one day in February 2026, a dear friend told me about a successful "snail mail" subscription club that had started 6 months earlier, had gone viral on social media, and had already amassed 4,000 subscribers. That was an amazing story.

As I thought about how we live in this go-go-go world that's full of digital distractions, and how our mailboxes — both physical and virtual — want something FROM us rather than something FOR us, the challenge of giving ourselves permission to pause, reflect and choose healthy, meaningful, delightful options is what surfaced. That was an important pivot point.

I tested the idea of “giving ourselves permission” with my coaching clients; it resonated with all of them. I knew I was on to something impactful.

Also, when I think about the thousands of handmade holiday cards my husband and I have lovingly made over the last 20 years (@ 200 cards per year) for our families, friends, and associates, and my background in instructional design, and my coaching skills — it all came together for me.

I tested the idea of a mail-based subscription service with more than 40 people I knew. Everyone was intrigued and excited. They loved the idea of sitting in a cozy chair to open a welcomed envelope with thoughtfully crafted contents that would give them permission to pause, reflect and choose without making a weighty commitment.

That's how Curiously Yours started.
